Famous Santorini Wines

There has been wine production on the island of Santorini, since ancient times. Santorini wines became world known during the influence of Venice in the middle ages. Since then the most famous wine is the Vinsanto, known in the middle ages as wine of the kings, made from grapes dried in the sun. The grape varieties for wine making in Santorini are: Athiri, Aidani, Assyrtiko and Mandelaria. Santorinis climate and volcanic soil, gives its wines unique strong taste, and high alcohol levels. Santorini, Nykteri and Vinsanto are the classified wines of Santorini island.

There are many wineries producing high quality of wines. We could mention Argyros Estate winery, Boutari winery, Gaia winery, Gavalas winery, Hatzidakis winery, Santo wines (not to miss), Koutsoyannopoulos winery and wine museum, Sigalas winery, Canava Roussos and more...
