Fira or Thira

  • Fira is the largest village of Santorini, and the capital of the island, built on the cliffs. Firostefani

Imerovigli

  • One of the most famous villages of Santorini. Well known for the unique view of the caldera and the volcano, but also the view of the rest of the island. Its built on the edge of the highest point of the cliffs, thats why Imerovigli means day watchtower . There is a path along the cliffs that goes through Imerovigli to Fira and to Oia. Its quiet and has many luxury hotels, restaurants and cafes and a few shops.The visitor can still see some ruins of the medieval castle of Skaros on the edge of the cliffs.

Oia

  • Carved in cave houses, the most beautiful sunsets, blue domes, traditional neoclassic old captains houses, and the breathtaking view over the cliffs have made Oia the most famous village of Santorini. Built on the cliffs on the northern end of the island, seems to be the busiest place of the island in the evenings. Thousands of people are enjoying the fantastic sunset every day in the summer. Oia has been characterized as one of the most beautiful and traditional settlements in Europe. Below Oia there is the old port of Armeni to which you can go only on foot or with a donkey, and also the bay of Amoudi, famous for the fish taverns and the sea view.

Pyrgos

  • It is the village built on the highest point of the island, on the foot of Profitis Elias mountain. The houses at the old part of the village Kasteli (means castle ) are built like one castle to protect the people from the pirates. Its a unique experience to walk in the village as it feels like walking in medieval Santorini. For that pyrgos is declared a preserved monument. There are a few restaurants cafes and shops, and the visitor can enjoy from Pyrgos the view of the rest of the island and the sea. In the area one can find some of the most important wineries of Santorini.

Megalochori

  • It is a traditional village built on the western part of Santorini. Since old times people of Megalochori were famous wine makers and made their living from wine. Some of the best islands vineyards are still in the area, as well as 3 wineries. Megalochori is one of the most quiet villages of Santorini, has a few hotels, a few restaurants and a few shops.

Akrotiri

  • Akrotiri village is located very near the excavation site, and the red beach. Akrotiri is partly built near the cliffs, so from many points the visitor can enjoy the view of the caldera and the volcano.Near the center of the village there are the ruins of the medieval castle, and many traditional houses are surrounding it.About 2,5 klms from the village , at the western end of the island, there is the Akrotiri lighthouse, offering very nice views of the island and the sea.

Exo gonia

  • About 9 klms from Fira, very near the village of Pyrgos, is built on a hillside, and has some very nice churches and traditional houses.

Episkopi (Mesa gonia)

  • It is located between Exo gonia and Kamari, The Byzantine church of Kimisis tis Theotokou is one of the most import and churches of Santorini and a unique Byzantine monument. If you are at the village you should not miss it. There are also two wineries on the village.

Eboreio

  • It is located 12 klms from Fira and near the beaches of Perissa and Perivolos. The old part of the village is called kasteli , and its a place worth exploring. The castle of Goulas and the little alleys of Kasteli of Eboreio will offer a connection with Santorini's past. Not very popular to visitors, but really amazing as at the old part of the village nothing has changed for so many years.
