Ancient Thira
Ancient Thira of Santorini, is an ancient city hidden at the top of Mesa Vouno mountain. Ancient Thira was founded on the 9th century B.C., by King Thiras, leader of Doric colonists from Sparta, and named after him.
All the buildings of the ancient city were made of mountain stone as there was not enough wood on the island. Visitors today can see the ruins of the ancient temples houses and theater, as the site is open to public, and can be reached either from Kamari with a car, or from Perissa on foot.
